Reedijk et al. — Beats and the Attentional Blink
High-level attentional control, not “chill vibes.” The attentional-blink paradigm asks whether a beat condition changes the cost of seeing a second target in a rapid stream.
Susan A. Reedijk and colleagues put binaural beats into a cognitive-control paradigm — the attentional blink — rather than a mood questionnaire. That is a stricter test of “focus.”
Who, where, when
Leiden cognitive psychology. Experimental, human, task-based.
What the work actually did
Beat-frequency conditions during an attentional-blink task. The paper is about whether dichotic stimulation modulates a known bottleneck in attention.
What it does not prove
Task effects are brittle. Later work from overlapping groups should be read with the same care you would give any small cognitive experiment, including correction history where it exists.
How to use this page
A focus session on this console is still you doing the looking. The beat is a frame.
Editorial reading of published research. The official paper is authoritative. Not medical advice. Not a claim that consumer audio recreates a trial protocol.
