Garcia-Argibay et al. — Efficacy of Binaural Beats
A meta-analysis is a ledger, not a hymn. Pooled binaural-beat studies show small-to-moderate average effects on some cognition, anxiety, and pain measures — and a field that is messy about frequency, duration, and controls.
Miguel Garcia-Argibay, Miguel A. Santed, and José M. Reales pooled published binaural-beat experiments and asked whether, on average, the stimulus moved cognition, anxiety, or pain perception. The paper is the honest starting point for “does it work?” — because the answer is “sometimes, modestly, depending on the protocol.”

What the work actually did
They estimate average effect sizes across heterogeneous trials: different beat bands, carrier choices, durations, tasks, and blinding quality. Exposure time and the target outcome matter. That is the opposite of a single magic hertz.
What it does not prove
Meta-analysis inherits publication bias, small samples, and protocol chaos. A pooled “yes” is not a prescription, and a null in one lab is not a refutation of the percept Oster described. Mixed results are what you should expect from a tool that depends on the operator and the task.
