Olaf Blanke, Stéphanie Ortigue, Theodor Landis, and Margitta Seeck linked illusory own-body perceptions to stimulation near the temporoparietal junction. The paper is short and heavy.

What the work actually did
Clinical stimulation producing OBE-like and related bodily illusions. Argument: the felt location of the self depends on integration of visual, vestibular, and somatosensory signals.
What it does not prove
Neurosurgical stimulation is not headphones. Laboratory OBE-like states are not proof of a double that walks the hallway. They are proof that the body map can be rewritten.
