Project GRILL FLAME
The best-documented early operational phase of military remote viewing: Army INSCOM, DIA coordination, training, sessions, and internal statistics. This is where the work had a shop floor.
GRILL FLAME is the name to learn if you want remote viewing as a job rather than a legend. It is the best-documented early operational phase: U.S. Army Intelligence and Security Command (INSCOM) at Fort Meade, Maryland, with DIA coordination, roughly late 1970s into the early 1980s. Project reports (including CIA-RDP96-00788R001000410001-6) describe training, session procedure, evaluation, and the unit’s own statistics. Those internal numbers are not the same species of claim as the 1995 external close-out. Keep the author in the room when you read a percentage.
Who was in the shop
A typical file names roles more than celebrities: viewer, monitor, tasker. Joseph W. McMoneagle is the best-documented operational viewer in the public trail. Training officers and monitors appear under varying redaction. Ingo Swann’s six-stage coordinate method arrived via SRI contract in 1983–1984; it is a training pipeline into this unit, not the only sit the unit ever ran. Extended remote viewing (longer, less staged) shows up as an alternate inside the same furniture.
What a session looked like
A handle (coordinate or other designator), a viewer, often a monitor who is not supposed to leak the site, marks and speech on paper, later feedback when protocol allows. Operational tasking used the same loop against real collection problems — which is why close-out later asked about utility, not only about training curves. Later commercial “CRV” brands are downstream folklore and business. Prefer these FOIA reports when you want what a government unit recorded.
What followed the stamp
The work did not vanish when the name changed. Center Lane continues INSCOM; Sun Streak is the DIA brand; STAR GATE is the umbrella on the CIA’s public shelf. Grill Flame is the shop-floor chapter. A modern forced-choice lab borrows the rhythm of lock → sit → call → reveal. It does not borrow Grill Flame’s mission.
