Gamma frequencies & 40 Hz research
Gamma activity is often discussed above ~30 Hz, with intense public interest around ~40 Hz after high-profile work on sensory stimulation and network dynamics. Consumer marketing frequently outruns clinical consensus.
What the science culture is excited about
- Feature binding & attention — gamma-band synchronization appears in many cognitive neuroscience papers as a candidate coordination signal.
- Noninvasive 40 Hz sensory stimulation — light/sound paradigms (distinct from classic binaural beats) have been studied in animal and early human research contexts; this is an active, evolving field with strict experimental protocols.
- Heterogeneity — “gamma” spans a wide band; not all 40 Hz methods are binaural beats, and not all binaural products at 40 Hz share lab parameters.
