What is a carrier frequency?
Answer
In binaural design, the carrier frequency is the base pitch of the tones — typically the lower ear frequency. The beat is added as a small offset on the other ear. Carrier ≈ “what note you hear”; beat ≈ “how fast it pulses.”

Carriers are usually chosen in a comfortable mid-range (often ~100–300 Hz) so pure tones are audible but not harsh. Extreme carriers can be unpleasant or hard to hear on small earbuds. Carrier choice is mostly about comfort and masking — it is not the same as the EEG-band number people quote.
