Beta waves research (≈13–30 Hz)
Beta (~13–30 Hz) is the everyday “active mind” band in waking EEG — associated with outward attention, problem-solving, and cognitive effort. High beta can co-occur with tension or anxiety for some people.
Research associations
- Active cognition — thinking, planning, verbal tasks.
- Sensorimotor / SMR region (~12–15 Hz) — discussed in neurofeedback literature for calm focus (different from pure high-beta “push”).
- Pathological extremes — clinical EEG interpretation of excess/deficient beta is specialist work; consumer audio should not self-diagnose ADHD or anxiety from a playlist.
Binaural beats in beta
In Garcia-Argibay, Santed & Reales (2019) long-term memory work, beta-frequency binaural beats (~20 Hz) were associated with better free-recall/recognition outcomes than white-noise controls in their experimental design, while a theta condition performed worse — a clear reminder that “lower is deeper / better” is not a scientific rule.
Free focus-oriented programs
If a beta-heavy session feels jittery, step down to Stress Release or an alpha-leaning calm program. Overstimulation is a signal, not a badge of honor.
